Brendan Wenzel, TCU rally to top No. 25 Baylor

Brendan Wenzel’s 3-pointer with 6 seconds left lifted visiting TCU to a 74-71 comeback win against No. 25 Baylor on Sunday in Waco, Texas.

A 3-point attempt from Baylor’s Jayden Nunn was blocked by Ernest Udeh Jr. as time expired.

Wenzel led TCU with 17 points off the bench, while Udeh scored a career-high 16 points and had a game-high 15 rebounds and four blocks. Noah Reynolds and Vasean Allette each added 13 points for the Horned Frogs (10-7, 3-3 Big 12).

Norchad Omier scored a game-high 20 points, V.J. Edgecombe tallied 18 points and Jeremy Roach chipped in 11 points for Baylor (11-6, 3-3) which has dropped two straight games.

The Horned Frogs used a 9-0, second-half run to take their first lead since it was 6-5. Micah Robinson’s offensive rebound and putback gave TCU a 62-61 lead with 4:21 to play.

Wenzel capped the stretch with an off-balance runner and corner trey to put the Horned Frogs up 67-61 with 3:21 left. Omier’s layup brought Baylor within four, but Jace Posey’s putback gave the visitors a 69-63 edge.

After a pair of free throws by Omier, Trazarien White’s offensive rebound and bucket gave the Horned Frogs a 71-65 lead with 35 seconds to play. TCU went on to finish with a 41-25 rebounding edge.

Edgecombe nailed three free throws and TCU turned it over on the inbounds pass. Nunn curled off a screen on the inbounds to hit a wing 3-pointer and tie the game 71-71.

TCU had 11 turnovers in the first half, which led to a 16-0 edge in points off turnovers for the Bears. Turnovers also led Baylor to a 9-5 advantage in fastbreak points. The Bears had only one turnover and hit 6 of 13 shots from behind the arc in the first half.

With 3:36 left till intermission, Roach canned a trey that matched the largest lead of the game for the Bears at 35-23.

A triple from Allette as the half drew to a close cut the Bears’ lead to 39-32 at halftime.
